Where we began.

Brighter Days grew from a simple, solid conviction: no child should feel alone. In Dallas, TX in 1982, our founder, Cathey Brown, saw a need while navigating her own recovery from alcohol and prescription drug addiction: there were support groups for adults like her, but nowhere for the affected children to heal. So Cathey started a group, including her own daughter, to show children experiencing ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) that nothing was their fault, they weren’t alone, and they can break the cycle and have positive futures. Our organization spent more than four decades building support groups, training adults, and walking with children through their hardest seasons. From the first support group of seven children to a nationally recognized evidence-based curricula used around the world, our mission has never changed: be the safe place, be the safe person.

From Rainbow Days to Brighter Days

In 2026, we stepped into a new name that reflects what we've always promised youth: a brighter day, and the belief that a brighter future is possible. The name is new, but the team, the programs, the evidence, and the unwavering presence in children's lives are exactly what they have been for more than forty years.

Meet Our Team

What's changed - and what hasn't.

Over four decades, our programs have expanded into shelters, motels, schools, and community sites across North Texas. Today we serve about 30,000 children each year, more than 319,000 since that first support group. Our training programs have reached over 62,000 adults around the world, including 22,700 who have been trained in the CBSG(R) Program.

What hasn't changed is how we do the work: showing up consistently, building trust, and believing that children are the experts on their own lives. Cathey's original conviction is still what drives every program, every partnership, and every person on this team: no child should face adversity alone.
